Saxophonist Miguel

He has been performing his musical projects all around Europe in festivals such as SaintJazz (Brussels, 2013), Tallin Jazzon (Estonia, 2013), Jazzdor (Berlin, 2014), JazzIberia Badajoz (Spain, 2015), Summertime Jazz Festival (Netherlands, 2015), Meer Jazz Festival and Delft Jazz Festival (Netherlands, 2016) among others.

At the age of six he started to play traditional Galician music. He started his formal studies in classical saxophone at the age of seven at the conservatory of Redondela (Galicia, Spain). He moved to Portugal in 2010 to follow his passion for Jazz music. In 2014 he received a degree in Jazz Saxophone from the Lisbon school of music (ESML). In the same year Miguel Sucasas was honored with the scholarship for young musicians from the Spanish foundation “Segundo Gil Dávila” and he moved to the Netherlands to do a Master’s degree in Jazz. He studied with the American saxophone player John Rocco and the Dutch/Finnish trumpet player Jarmo Hoogendijk. In 2016 he was awarded his Master’s degree from the Royal Conservatory of The Hague.

Miguel Sucasas has played and recorded with several international bands such as the European Saxophone Ensemble, with whom he has been touring around Europe since 2013. He was part of the famous rocksteady-ska band of the Jamaican singer Roy Ellis aka Mr. Symarip, one of the fathers of this music style. He has also recorded many works as a sideman for bands of different styles including Rock, Pop, Afrobeat, Reggae, Ska, Salsa.

In 2014 Miguel released his own album entitled “Four Corners Quartet” with his original compositions. Since then he has been touring and playing as a band leader in Jazz festivals and different venues in Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Germany and Greece.

Miguel Sucasas currently resides in The Hague, Holland, where he performs with, bass player Yussif Barakat, and drummer Owen Hart Jr.
